Birthday Fun Begins

Jack’s birthday isn’t until the 14th, but we started the festivities today with a trip to Cocoa Key, an indoor waterpark. His two best buddies, Ben and Sam, came along and we had a day of sliding and splashing to celebrate Jack turning 3. The waterpark was really neat. When we walked in one of the boys let out a big, “Wow!” Here are some pictures of the fun.

Henry wasn’t too impressed with the waterpark, despite getting to swim for the first time. In addition to taking his first dip, he ate twice and took a nap.

Our morning started off with some excitement. We got a new heat pump and furnace yesterday and the installers forgot to turn an important switch. We discovered their oversight about 5:30 this morning when we woke up and it was 58 degrees in Jack’s room. So we called them and they were here by about 7:30 to fix it. In the meantime, we were pretty cold. It’s a good thing Henry had his bear suit so he could stay warm.

A Tale of Six Pancakes

Today we had pancakes and bacon for lunch. I intended to have this meal at breakfast, but it just didn’t happen. So instead we moved it to lunch. Jack really, really likes pancakes, and bacon too I guess. He usually eats two pancakes – one Mickey Mouse and one regular circle shape. Today he was a bit hungrier than he is at breakfast time. So he ate two Mickey Mouse pancakes, a blueberry one, and three regular circle ones. That would be six pancakes. Oh, and two slices of bacon. I do make his pancakes on the small side, but six pancakes is still a lot for an almost three year old. He didn’t throw up from eating too much, so I guess he really was hungry. He was also messy. So messy he had to get a new shirt and have a little sponge bath in the sink.

Henry discovered this week that he really likes reading books while he lays in his boppy. This morning Jack read him “Five Little Monkeys.”

2 Months

Today Henry is two months old. I just read my one-month post and am happy to say he is doing 100 percent better than a month ago. He hasn’t had any more ear or eye infections since then.

This month he learned how to smile and, when he wants to, can push up on his tummy really well. And, he discovered he really wants to suck his thumb. Most of the time he can’t find it and just sucks on whatever part of his fingers he can get in his little mouth.

He loves looking at the fish in his mobile on his crib and his monkey on his bouncy seat. He also likes looking at all the toys on his new playmat that Grandpa Dee and Grandma Donna got him. Jack is a great source of entertainment for him too. He always pays attention to Jack and you can tell he wonders where he goes when he can’t see him anymore. This month also brought his first visits to the zoo and BSF, and he’s already a regular at storytime at the library. He was also dedicated at church on Sunday. He is a very sweet little guy and it is so fun to hear him talk to us in his little noises. Tonight when Nathan got home and Henry saw him he smiled so big right away.

Roller Skating and Valentine’s Day

Jack went roller skating for the first time this weekend. My mom’s club won a party at the skating rink, so we got in for free and just had to pay for skate rentals. We weren’t sure what Jack would think of it, but he had a good time. However, I think he had just as much fun “playing” the video games in the arcade. He doesn’t realize yet that if you put money in the game it’s a lot more fun.

We celebrated Valentine’s Day on Sunday instead of today. Nathan made Jack a fun scavenger hunt with clues hidden around the house leading him to his present. Jack loved it. Each time he found a clue and figured out where he needed to go, he would take off running as fast as he could to the next location. At the end of the hunt he found the game Chutes and Ladders. He’s having a little bit more trouble figuring it out than he did with Candyland, his current favorite game, but he still thinks it’s pretty fun. He also had fun helping me decorate our Valentine’s cake. He loves anything related to cake!

Bath Time

Henry seems to like his bath time. We have a sprayer attachment in the bathtub so we spray him with warm water the whole time. So he stays warm and doesn’t complain. Here he is the other day in his bathtub.

After we took this picture I was convinced we had a similar picture of Jack, and they looked exactly the same in them. Turns out they don’t really look that much alike in the pictures, but they are both pretty cute. Jack was three months in this picture and his cheeks aren’t nearly as chubby as Henry’s already are.

Six Weeks

Today Henry had his six-week doctor's appointment. The best news is his ear infection is totally gone, and his eye is cleared up too. We are very thankful for those to both be gone! He also continues to pack on the pounds. He's now up to 13 lbs. 6 oz. -- that puts him in the 97th percentile for weight. He is 22 1/2 inches -- the 50-75th percentile for height. He had to get three shots today, so that was pretty sad but he seems to be over it now. He's taking his third nap of the day in his bouncy seat.

Snow Day

Today we had our much-anticipated blizzard so we needed some entertainment to keep Jack from being too bored. This morning we made banana muffins and read the book, “If You Give a Moose a Muffin.” Jack thought it was great fun to help make the muffins and even better to read a book about muffins.

This afternoon after his nap, he got a big surprise –his very own pirate ship. He wanted me to go a trip with him in his boat. When I asked him where we were going, he immediately responded, “To where the wild things are.” If you don’t read 20 or so children’s books a day, that is from the book “Where the Wild Things Are,” one of Jack’s favorites.

Little Bear

Today was  really warm outside, at least compared to how cold it has been lately. So Jack, Henry and I headed outside to play this afternoon. Henry got to wear his little bear suit that Grandma Pam and Grandpa Glen gave him. It kept him nice and warm, and he looked pretty cute.

He also got to go on his first stroller ride, while Jack raced ahead of us on his tractor. Before we left to go on our little walk, Jack took a turn pushing the stroller.

Last, here he is in his Batman shirt. This was the one and only time he’ll wear it, since he’s growing so fast. It’s way too small already.

One Month Old

Today Henry is one month old and has become a very chubby baby. He was 8 lbs. when he was born and is now up to 12 lbs.

As you can see, he has developed a bit of a round face. In the past week or so, he has started being awake more during the day but still sleeps a lot. The poor little guy is having a hard time with a tear duct that keeps getting clogged and right now has his second ear infection and second round of pink eye. His first month has been a bit rough and we are hopeful that month two will be better. Jack has discovered he really likes to hug and kiss Henry, hold him, and also give him toys to play with – which really means he just piles toys on top of him.

A Quick Spanish Lesson

Right now Jack is sitting at the table eating banana bread. He just announced loudly, "I'm gonna hit the hay." I replied, "What?"


 He repeated, "I'm gonna hit the hay. That's Spanish for 'I love banana bread.'"
