9 Months

Henry celebrated his nine-month birthday today by going to the pumpkin patch. It was a beautiful day and he had fun being outside. He also got to ride the train and look at animals.

His new favorite way to smile is scrunching up his nose. He discovered this because he and Jack love to blow air our their noses at each other and then crack up laughing. Their favorite time to do this is when I am trying to feed Henry. In his high chair, he has a perfect view of Jack and they love to play.




As I mentioned in my previous post, we now have a mobile baby. He is very determined to get to whatever toy or object he wants. He also had his third tooth (top left) finally break through today.

This month he learned how to pick up puffs and cheerios and eat them all by himself, and how to drink out of a straw sippy cup. He even knows now what the puffs container is when I get it out of the pantry. He has also pulled up to standing a few times on the footstool in the living room. His favorite book right now is "Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?" He still enjoys bath time and really likes it when he and Jack get to take a bath together. My favorite thing he learned to do this month was to finally sleep all night (11 or 12 hours) long. He needed a little help to learn that one. It was a sad night for poor Henry but he figured it out. He's a happy little guy!

Uh Oh, He's on the Move

Henry has had a big week. Last week he started saying his first official word, "uh-oh." He's been babbling and saying "da-da" and "ma-ma" and other silly things for a long time. But now when you ask him to say "uh-oh" he looks right at you and says it. He sounds so cute and he thinks it's funny when we clap for him.

And then yesterday he figured out how to army crawl. He can't crawl the right way yet, but he is definitely mobile now! He's not very fast but he can get to whatever toy he wants.

Jack also said something funny tonight. We bought a fire pit today, so tonight we had a fire and made s'mores. Jack, while eating his second s'more, said "Mommy you should take a picture of us with this fire and put it on the blog."

Reading and a Train

Yesterday morning Jack read books to Henry and it was so cute. Jack has several books that he can "read" the whole way through because he has them memorized. Brown Bear is one of those and Henry really likes it, so he just sat there while Jack read it to him. Look at that round head that Henry is so nicely displaying!





While Henry was napping, Jack and I made a train out of an old diaper box. It was quite the event and he enjoyed decorating it with stickers and then pretending he was a train engineer.






Then in the afternoon we had to go to the doctor. Jack has had a cough for a week and we figured it was just drainage from his allergies, but it turns out it wasn't. He has a sinus infection and they even gave him an inhaler to help with his coughing. I am glad we went so he can start feeling better. He is glad we went because we had to go to Target to get his medicine and he ended up getting new Spiderman pajamas (it was a weak mommy moment). He's at preschool right now, but he is planning on put them on again when he gets home.

Jammies

Jack got a pair of big brother pajamas for Christmas last year since Henry had just been born. What luck that I found the matching little brother ones at the JBF sale a few weeks ago. Who knew I would love making them wear matching clothes so much? I wonder what will be next. They think it's fun for now so I have to get it out of my system before they refuse to do it.

Apple Picking

On Labor Day went went to the Red Barn Farm in Weston to go apple picking (thank you Valerie for the idea!). The weather was perfect and we had a great time. Henry loved it and did great even though his afternoon nap got all messed up.



Jack was all about finding good apples and picking them.







Then I told him he could eat one and he was all about eating apples. He forgot about picking them at that point.



We also had a fun picnic for lunch and Henry discovered he really likes to touch the tires on his stroller.




Then we went on a hayride pulled by a tractor and looked at all the animals. Oh and I can't forgot our apple slushes. They were good, but not nearly as good as the ones at Louisburg. Here is Jack spotting the tractor and then petting a donkey. And yes, I know the sign behind him says that the animals may bite. He was being careful!

A Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Last week Jack got his first bike. He loves it and also got a Spiderman helmet to go along with it.




He's doing great riding it, and on Tuesday we went to a trail near our house to ride his bike and play at the park. Our hike, as Jack called it, went great until I told him he could ride down a hill to the parking lot. This was a big mistake on my part. I overestimated Jack's bike riding skills and he wiped out big time. It played out in slow motion -- Jack fell off and the bike kept going... toward the other parked cars. I had to park Henry in his stroller, run to Jack and pick him up, make sure he was okay and then chase the runaway bike. He recovered quickly with a few scrapes on his elbow and leg. But when Nathan got home the first thing Jack says to him is, "Daddy, I had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day." He got that line from the book "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" that Aunt Regina got him when Henry was born. Poor baby!

Last week Henry learned how to pull up in his crib. So now his mattress is lowered down to the bottom setting. He thinks it's pretty fun to stand up in his crib.
