I Don't Want to be Smart

Jack is allowed to watch one TV show a day. Other than his one show we don't ever have the TV on during the day. He pretty much always chooses to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse at 8:00 while I am feeding Henry and getting him dressed. However, his knowledge of the "one show a day" rule does not stop him from casually suggesting (sometime several times a day) that he might watch another show. So, when we got home from MOPS today, he asked if he could watch a show. Here's how the conversation went:

Me: You can only watch one show a day because TV doesn't help you get smarter. Reading books makes you smarter; watching TV doesn't.
Jack: I don't want to be smart. 
Me: You still can't watch a show.


And then he gave up.

Oh Henry

Nathan says Henry is the softest baby in the world. This picture shows you his chubby little arms and legs – the reason for his softness!

Smiles

Today Henry discovered he really likes his jump-a-roo. That meant I finally got some smiling pictures of him!

 

Visit to the Fire Station

Today Jack, Henry and I visited the Liberty Fire station with our playgroup from church. According to Jack, it was “pretty awesome.” Some of you may not know, but he wore his fire hat, fire jacket and fire boots for the majority of the summer and fall. So today was a pretty big day for him. He got to get in an ambulance, climb in the fire truck, hold the fire hose and see where the firefighters sleep. He was pretty overwhelmed at first I think, but he warmed up eventually and let me take a few pictures. He also got a fire hat from the fire fighters, so I attempted to take a picture of both boys with fire hats on – it didn’t work out very well.

And here is sweet little Henry. He got weighed at the doctor last week and he is 17 lbs. 7 oz. That is still the 98th percentile. I had to get out a bunch of clothes Jack wore when he was at least 7 months so Henry could have shirts that fit him.

During Naptime

We were all busy during naptime today. Jack built a car and packed his Lightning McQueen suitcase and backpack. He then informed me he was leaving for a seven-day stay at Grandma Pam’s house. He packed Pat the Bunny and his Veggietales Bible. Here is his car.

Henry discovered he loves his exersaucer, especially talking to himself in the mirror.

His little feet barely touched the ground but he didn’t mind.

3 Months

Today is Henry’s three month birthday. Jack thought we should have some cake to celebrate. Little Henry looks a little surprised in this picture, but I like that he is accidentally showing me three fingers. He is learning new things every day – and getting bigger! He’s wearing six and nine month clothes. Yesterday he started laughing just a little bit and he loves to smile and talk to us. He also loves talking to any toy that has a face. I finally got a picture of him smiling just a little bit, but his real smile is much bigger than this.

He also loves standing up and I wanted to take a picture of him that showed his cute little overalls. Since I was taking these pictures during the day and I needed to hold Henry up, Jack became the photographer. He did a pretty good job!

For Will

Some of my fondest memories from growing up are watching Will’s countless baseball games with Mom and Dad and Glenny, most of the time sweating like crazy in the summer heat while drinking a limeade from Sonic. This afternoon I had visions of many more baseball games in my future, only this time we’ll be watching Jack instead of Will.

Jack got a real t-ball tee, bat and balls from Grandma Pam and Grandpa Glen for his birthday. We got it out for the first time this afternoon and he loved it! He hit balls for 45 minutes – that’s a really long time for one activity when you’re three.

Will, I missed you today. When you get home you can come over and hit balls with Jack.

Dinnertime Conversation

Jack:  I want a piece of sausage.

Nathan:  You need to eat your sweet potato and sandwich first.

Jack:  But I want some sausage.

Nathan:  Well, you don’t always get what you want.  I’d like a pony, but I don’t have one.

Jack:  …What else do you want?

Nathan:  Just those two things – a pony and for you to eat your food.

Jack:  Well, I guess you don’t get either one.

Nathan:  I guess that’s true.

Three!

Today is Jack’s third birthday. I can’t believe it has been three years since God blessed us with this amazing little boy. He makes us laugh every day and it is such a joy to watch him grow. We had his birthday party yesterday and he was surrounded with lots of people who love him. As you’ll see in the pictures, he was a very happy little boy. I don’t think he stopped smiling all day, except for the brief moment he couldn’t eat his cake fast enough. It was very sad. Cake is pretty important at your third birthday party.

I Am the Jack

This morning Nathan and Jack had an interesting discussion. It went something like this:


Nathan: "I am the daddy, so I can do whatever I want." 
Jack: "I am the Jack, so I can do whatever I want."
